Competitive Event (one team with 3 members max per school) – SSC-B111

Apparatus:
1. Each team may have up to three students per school.
2. Each team will be supplied with 16 plastic drinking straws and 40 paper clips
to build a weight supporting tower. No other materials may be used as building
materials.
3. A pair of scissors and a ruler will be available to each team at the
construction site.
Competition:
1. The object is to construct a weight supporting tower as strong as possible
with the building materials provided. The tower should have a minimum height of
15 cm. Teams will need to design the detailed structure of the tower to make it
strong enough to sustain weight hanging from its tip later.
2. Each team must complete the construction of its tower within 35 minutes in
order to complete the contest within the allotted time.
3. At the completion of the construction, weight will be hung from the tip of
the tower. The team whose tower bears the most weight before collapsing will
win the competition.
