Taxonomy:
Eight subspecies are recognized by Crother (2008).
According to Conant and Collins (1998),
L.
g. nigra (Eastern Black
Kingsnake) occurs over most
of Tennessee with intergradient populations with
L. g.
holbrooki (Speckled Kingsnake) occurring in the western and
southwestern third of the state.
Distribution:
The Common Kingsnake occurs statewide.
