Taxonomy:  No subspecies are recognized for Opheodrys aestivus (Crother 2008).

Distribution: The Rough Greensnake should probably be considered statewide in Tennessee.  However, records are lacking for much of the Cumberland Plateau and upper northeastern Tennessee.  The distribution map provided by Conant and Collins (1998) depicts the species as absent in upper northeastern Tennessee.
