Taxonomy: Pantherophis
spiloides is one of nine species of North American Ratsnakes listed by
Crother et al. (2008), and the only one that occurs in Tennessee.
No subspecies are recognized.
Distribution: The Gray Ratsnake has been documented statewide, but
there are still a few counties in each grand division where records are lacking.
