Comparison of Options for the Three Concentrations
in the Mathematics Major

The three concentrations for the Mathematics Major are Austin Peay State University are
1) the Concentration in Mathematics,
2) the Concentration in Mathematics Education, and
3) the Concentration in Statistics.
 
All three concentrations require a major core of  25 semester hours consisting of Math 1910, Math 1920, Math 2110, Math 3010, Math 3450, Math 4240, Math 4450, and Math 4810 along with CSCI 1010, a related course in computer science.  Then after the major core each concentration requires six additional courses.  The six additional courses for each concentration are given below:

Concentration in Mathematics:  Math 3120, Math 3130, Math 4250, 4500, 3 hours of approved mathematics electives greater than or equal to 3000, and 3 hours of approved mathematics electives greater than or equal to 4000.

Concentration in Mathematics Education:  Math 3000, Math 3630, Math 4010, Math 4110, MAED 4400 and 3 hours of approved mathematics electives greater than or equal to 4000.   The student must also complete the Professional Education Minor.

Concentration in Statistics:  Math 3250, Math 3260, Math 3270, Math 4250, and two approved upper division electives.  Suggested electives are Math 4260, Math 4270, and Math 4710.
