2004-05 Activities of XEM - the chemistry club

In September we helped our department host a section meeting - “Mad Hatters”

We served refreshments for the 100+ in attendance

We were once again active in local schools as well as the Adventure Science Center “Chemistry Day”

We showed kids how clinical test strips were used

We also gave science fair workshops here and at APSU

We always participate in GHOST - safe trick or treating

What a crazy bunch of guys! We also hand out chemistry magazines from NCW

and even let the kids shell corn off the cob like the old days

During the 2nd semester we judged science fairs in local schools & did more demo shows
![]()
including outreach to 3 campus residence halls
![]()
all leading up to the Middle TN Science and Engineering Fair!

It was a beautiful fair with about 150 projects in grades 6-12

Our own students presented their previous summer research . . .

and we sponsored an oral presentation competition of high school research

These are good hearted XEM members who sacrificed a Saturday close to finals to help

We provided a snack lunch for those in attendance

Springtime means we help “Plant the campus red”

and even one day before graduation we had a group of 50 middle school students in for activities
![]()
slime, hot & cold packs, a planetarium tour and a LABMAN demo show for these students finished our year

and the students were very appreciative. . . it was a good year
