Junior/Senior/Graduate RecitalClass
Guitar
Group instruction for students with little or no previous classical guitar
experience. Emphasis on classical (fingerstyle) playing technique and music
reading. 2 hours per week for one semester. [Top] Individual
Instruction
Individual applied lessons in classical guitar technique, interpretation,
performance and career development. Includes a commercial music option.
Enrollment by audition and with instructor approval only. 1/2 hour or 1 hour
lesson per week for the duration of the degree. [Top] Guitar
Ensemble
Students develop ensemble and arranging skills by rehearsing and performing in
one of several guitar ensembles tailored to their experience level. Ensembles
perform in concert each semester and provide music for various events on and off
campus. 3 hours per week for the duration of the degree. [Top] Guitar
Pedagogy
Students study the art of teaching, learning not only how and what to teach but
also how to find and develop institutional teaching opportunities, attract students and develop a successful
freelance teaching studio. 3
hours per week for one semester. [Top] Guitar
Literature
Overview of the guitar repertoire from the renaissance to the present. 3 hours
per week for one semester. [Top] Performance
Class
Students perform in a masterclass setting. 1 hour per week for the duration of
the degree. [Top] Directed
Studies
Graduate students may take up to two specialized research courses on topics of
particular interest. One semester each on a tutorial basis. [Top] Junior/Senior/Graduate
Recital
Students present a formal solo recital at the Junior, Senior and Graduate levels
(in addition to other required departmental performances). [Top]
